Police officers attached to the Ikoyi Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three men for allegedly kidnapping a 16-year-old boy, Olufolabi Adeniji, a student of American International School in the state.
The police also rescued the school boy kidnapped on April 16, 2013.
The police officers were said to have arrested the suspects on April 18, 2013, following a gun battle in a bush at Ilaro, Ogun State after two days of manhunt.
It was gathered that the suspects, with the aid of the victim’s parents’ driver, kidnapped the boy while he was been driven to school.
John Adebayo, the boy’s parents’ driver, according to police sources, was the mastermind of the kidnap.
Adebayo and the three others then went on to demand a ransom of N60 million.
A police source said: “Adebayo was driving the boy to school that day but he had planned with the kidnappers to abduct the boy.
“He was the one who opened the door and allowed the three other kidnappers into the car and they later abandoned the victim’s parents’ car in Lekki and drove off to Ilaro with another vehicle.”
The parents of the boy reported the kidnap at the Ikoyi Division and the police recovered the car at the Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki Area of the state.
A police source added that the Divisional Police Officer, Aisha Haruna, took over the investigation and through the cell phone of the suspects, they traced the call to the neighbouring Ogun State.
The police source added: “It was on the verge of collecting a ransom of N5 million on Friday last week that the suspects were arrested in a bush at Ilaro, Ogun State.
“One of them was shot dead and a policeman was stabbed in the head.
“We however rescued the boy and he is safe with his parents.”
