Forty-eight hours after quitting the Peoples Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress, the security aides of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, have been withdrawn.
The security aides, comprising operatives of the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Services were ordered withdrawn from the Speaker’s residence in Apo legislative quarters on Thursday morning.
The withdrawal may not be unconnected with the decampment of the Speaker from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday.
One of the media aides to the Speaker confirmed to The Eagle Online that the security aides of his principal have been withdrawn.
He said: “Yes, it is true.
“The security details to the Speaker have just been removed this morning.
“They (the security aides) have all left his (Speaker’s) house now.”
Tambuwal, it would be recalled, had on Tuesday dumped the PDP for the APC.
He made the announcement of his decamping on the floor of the House.
On Wednesday, Tambuwal identified institutionalised corruption within the PDP as one of the reasons he left the party.
He stated this after he was officially admitted as a member of the APC in Abuja by the national leadership of the party.
Tambuwal noted that apart from corruption, PDP has failed to address issues of youth unemployment and insecurity.
He urged Nigerians to reject the PDP, pointing out that with the support of the electorates, the PDP will no longer be in office as from May 29 next year.
According to him: “By the grace of Allah, by this time on May 29, 2015, PDP will be swept off the seat of government.
“I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of emotions since I joined the APC over which I say, thank you very much.”
