This was coming on the heels of the impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, by the state House of Assembly on Monday.
Shaibu said this through his lawyer at the panel’s maiden sitting on Wednesday in Benin.
Shaibu said this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Saturday.
He defeated other aspirants in a peaceful but security-tight primaries at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin
According to him, he joined the Edo Governorship race to stop schemes by vested interests to return power to businessmen.
The declaration on Monday came despite the opposition of Governor Godwin Obaseki to Shaibu’s ambition.
He made this known to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja as he kicked off his campaign for the upcoming election.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports the event is expected to be a gathering of both past and present Nigerian athletes.
In a letter titled, “Re: Public Apology By The Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu,” the governor said in good faith, he trusts that the public apology as expressed by Shaibu is genuine and followed by contrite steps to improve his conflict resolution skills.
The Deputy Governor tendered the apology when he spoke with newsmen on Thursday at his residence in Benin.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Shaibu has been at loggerheads with Gov. Obaseki over his ambition to contest the forthcoming 2024 governorship election.
The new office is situated at 7 Dennis Osadebey Avenue, close to the Government House.
The match, played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the Edo State capital, was played amidst tension.
Shaibu spoke as a former Governor of the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said he is not wanted in the APC.
Chairman of the committee, Philip Shaibu, made the appeal at a meeting with the two unions in Benin, Edo State.
Until his retirement, Shaibu was a signed player of Bendel Insurance FC, a club that he helped to secure a ticket to the Nigerian Professional Football League.
He said this while addressing newsmen after an emergency State Security Council meeting at the Government House.
The Acting Governor led other government functionaries and heads of security agencies on the visit on Monday.
This is as he also alleged that Obaseki had been in the habit of manipulating Shaibu and “making him (Shaibu) the fall-guy of a system that has been heavily compromised.”
