Facebook said on Tuesday it had deleted hundreds of Russian accounts and pages associated with a “troll factory” indicted by U.S. prosecutors for fake activist and political posts in the 2016 U.S. election campaign.
Putin, however, said that possible plans to retaliate by declaring U.S media operating in Russia as foreign agents may be “a little too harsh,” and that the Kremlin was still formulating its exact response.
Under gray skies and intermittent rain, over 2,000 people gathered in central Moscow’s Pushkin Square and chanted “Russia will be free” and “Russia without Putin” before walking towards the Kremlin and parliament.
The Kremlin has been coy in recent weeks about whether the 64-year-old head of state would run for another six-year term in the March 2018 election.
