Osinachi Ohale, a Super Falcons defender, has signed a professional contract with Houston Dash FC, a women football club in the National Women’s Soccer League of the United States of America.
This was contained in a statement by the Media Officer of the national senior women team, Gracious Akujobi, on Thursday in Abuja.
It quoted the former Delta Queens FC defender as saying that she was happy to be playing in a league as strong as the NWSL.
“I thank God for His grace and favour, because playing in the NWSL was the least thing I expected this year. But the offer came on a platter of gold,” Ohale was quoted as saying.
According to the statement, Ohale has already taken part in her club’s first league match of the season where they lost to defending champions, Portland Thorns.
She added: “I like the standard of the league as it will help me improve my game and confidence, and the environment is favourable. My teammates have been very good.”
The player was quoted as saying that her contract was “a good one with good salary”.
The statement said further that Ohale, who could not join the Super Falcons in camp, would be around for the African Women Championship.
She said: “I cannot come to camp now because our league just started this April. But I will be with the team for the AWC because our league ends in August.”
The Super Falcons are presently in camp in preparation for the AWC qualifier.
The team will visit Rwanda for the first leg match between May 23 and May 25 and play the return leg match in Nigeria between June 6 and June 8.
