The Nigeria Football Federation says the Nigeria Professional Football League Super 4 has attracted international attention to Nigeria’s football and helped improved the game.
Ebere Amaraizu, a Director in the Nigeria Nation-Wide League Board, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Tuesday.
NAN reports that the 2016 edition of NPFL Super 4 Tournament was recently concluded at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The five-day event, concluded on December 11, involved four top NPFL clubs.
Amaraizu said: “The tournament is getting bigger, with stronger sponsorship and international telecast of its matches.
“It is getting better and broader in all ramifications and the NFF is proud of the colour and vibrancy the Super 4 adds to football in the country.
“The turn-out to the stadium and gate-fee collection had continued to increase as observed in the matches of the tournament in Enugu.”
The director hailed the Enugu State Government for ensuring that there were no technical hitches in terms of flood lights and other dysfunctions.
Amaraizu said: “The public address and medical emergency systems were also superb and deployed effectively for announcement, crowd control as well as medical emergencies respectively during the tournament.”
On security, Amaraizu, who is also the spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, said there was no report of security lapses during the tournament.
He stated: “The matches were played under floodlights and it entered into the night proper but we did not receive any report of security breach.
“While our gallant police officers and men as well as sister security agencies worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of all.”
NAN recalls that Rivers United FC won the tournament with six points, followed by Rangers FC and Wikki Tourist FC, which came third, while FC IfeanyiUbah trailed behind with just one point.
