Nigerian military Monday imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Maiduguri, Borno State, following attack by the insurgents earlier in the day that left no fewer than 70 Boko Haram members dead.
The insurgents who attempted to attack Bama, about 40 miles away from the capital, recorded heavy casualties as soldiers killed several of them in a fierce battle.
The 7th Divisional headquarters of the Nigerian army said the curfew is indefinite until law and order are maintained in the capital.
The Defence Headquarters confirmed the attack but would not confirm the casualty figure.
According to information on the DHQ’s Twitter handle, it says the troops repelled the attack by Boko Haram, assuring that the terrorists would be defeated.
“Bama attack is being repelled. We cannot state casualty situation/figures now. Everything necessary will be done to contain the terrorists,” DHQ tweeted.
