Senators loyal to the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, have concluded plans to suspend Senator Ali Ndume over his decision to bring up the issue of the controversial N298 million Range Rover Jeep during plenary.
Ndume says he is aware of the plan.
Ndume had last week raised a Point of Order on the issue of the vehicle and the alleged certificate scandal involving Senator Dino Melaye.
Sources close to the plot explained the senators loyal to Saraki, who are in the majority in the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privilege, have started collecting signatures to ensure the suspension of Ndume by the time the report of the committee is submitted for consideration on the floor of the Senate.
Although the source could not confirm the actual amount that will be given to any senator that supports the suspension of Ndume, it was reliably gathered that money has started exchanging hands to ensure the suspension of former Senate Leader.
Our correspondent observed during the investigative hearing on the seized Jeep and Melaye’s certificate scandal, that many of pro-Saraki senators were present.
They included Tayo Alasoadura, member of the Ethics Committee; Senator Samuel Anyawu, Chairman of the Committee; Senator Peter Nwaboshi, member of the Committee; Senator Bassey Akpan; and Senator Ibrahim Gobir.
Investigation revealed that Ndume, who was a member of Like Minds Senators (Pro-Saraki senators) fell out favour with Saraku over his support for the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, as substantial chairman of the anti-graft agency.
Saraki’s camp sees Ndume’s support for Magu as an affront on Senate president, who has unresolved issues with the anti-graft boss when he was head of the Economic Governance Unit of the EFCC under former Chairman of commission, Nuhu Ribadu.
