The representative of Niger East Senatorial District, Barrister David Umaru, on Tuesday called on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to get technocrats in the committee that will shepherd the transition process for the incoming government in Niger State.
Umaru warned the APC to be wary of implementing the template of the “disgraced” Peoples Democratic Party in the composition of the committee, adding that people must not be chosen based on political considerations alone, but with specific purposes.
He said in a statement made available to The Eagle Online that the APC must not trifle with the mandate that was freely given by the people of the state.
According to him: “The PDP, especially in Niger State, wasted 16 years of our time. Therefore, we, who promised change, should not implement the template of the disgraced PDP, lest we enrage our people, disappoint them and get humiliated in a similar fashion.
“One would ordinarily think our state would have emulated the principle behind the well-thought out and the readily available template of our party leader and President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari whose transition committee packs a good deal of patriotism, experience and credibility.”
This is however coming as a result of a publication of the composition/membership of the committee that will shepherd the transition process in Niger State by the incoming administration.
Senator Umaru disclosed further: “At this transition period, every patriotic citizen is at once hopeful and anxious about what the wave of change is beckoning and how the change managers will proceed from here.
“We must not trifle with this mandate that was freely given to us by the people. We are obligated to serve them and do right to fulfil our responsibilities.
“Please, let us not go the way of PDP, let us partner, appoint, and engage good selfless people in Niger State. Why didn’t we copy from General Buhari? We must not choose people based on political considerations alone, every individual must have a specific purpose on the committee; for the reason that our people are tired.
“Proper consultation must be done to recruit credible and capable people. We must select professionals who can ask hard questions, know where to look and not afraid to do the right thing – individuals who embody selflessness.
“I will be remiss of my duties to sit and watch while my state deteriorates in the ways of the old.”
