This may sound strange but it is true: Rangers International may end up dressing one goalkeeper again for the second leg match of the Orange CAF Champions League against Vital of Burundi on Sunday in Enugu.
The Eagle Online can exclusively report that only goalkeeper Godwin Ayalogu is eligible and available for the decisive encounter.
Unknown to many Nigerian football followers, in the first leg, a defender, Cyril Oriaku, was dressed as the reserve goalkeeper by the Nigeria’s flag bearer in the encounter that ended 0-0 in Burundi.
The management of the Coal City side had registered other goalkeepers without the consent of their former clubs.
A source told The Eagle Online: “There is serious problem in Rangers camp ahead of the match.
“It is simply a case of financial disagreement between Rangers and some clubs.
“Rangers registered players without proper clearance from their clubs.
“Except those clubs agree, then only Ayalogu will feature on Sunday.”
Rangers’ technical crew selection problem was worsened by the injury sustained by goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel during the recently concluded Africa Youth Championship in Algeria.
Daniel, who last season kept for Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan is thus ruled out on account of injury.
Like Sunday Mba’s case, Rangers’ management is yet to agree on transfer fee for another Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Chigozie Agbim, who is equally registered for the competition.
