The House of Representatives ad hoc Committee set up to probe the
alleged non-implementation of the 2015 Appropriation Act on Thursday
failed to conduct its public hearing on the matter.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the public hearing could not
take place as scheduled although officials of some agencies related to
the Ministry of Finance turned up for the event.
The Clerk of the committee, Sadiq Mustapha, told NAN in Abuja that the
Ministry of Finance requested for an extension of time.
However, a staff of the ad hoc committee told NAN on anonymity
condition that the public hearing could not take place due to the
failure of some of the agencies to submit the necessary documents
needed for the event.
According to the source, the event has been postponed to next week,
but without a definite date.
The source said: “This is because some of the agencies have yet to
make their submissions up till now.”
Officials of the Ministry of Finance, its departments and agencies are
expected to provide evidence to convince the lawmakers that the 2015
Appropriation Act is on course.
The House, at a meeting on August 13, 2015, constituted the ad hoc
committee to examine the non-implementation of the budget, following a
motion by Rep. Patrick Asadu (Enugu-PDP), under matters of urgent
public importance.
Asadu had accused the Federal Government of abandoning the
implementation of the 2015 budget and capital projects almost midway
into the third quarter of the financial year.
