The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said the protest against his nomination as a minister by President Muhammadu Buhari was uncalled for.
Mohammed is the Kwara State nominee on the list of 21 sent to the Senate for confirmation by Buhari.
However, a youth group during the week staged a protest against Mohammed’s nomination.
Mohammed, however, told newsmen on Friday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, that no one can stop his emerging a minister for frivolous reasons.
He said he deserved the nomination and that nobody or group of persons should deny him of it.
He said the protesters failed to realise that himself and his family registered in Oro, his hometown in Kwara State, for both his party and voting in national elections.
He said he contributed in no small measure to the development of the party in his local government and the success of the member of the House of Representatives from that area.
He challenged the protesters to cross check these facts.
Though Mohammed said he was not in the state during the elections because of national assignments for the APC, the protesters should realise that what he was assigned to do during the period was more important than coming to cast a single vote.
Mohammed equally spoke on the emergence of his son as a member of Lagos State House of Assembly, explaining that it was his own political reward for his service to the people of the area.
He said the people of the area willingly ceded the ticket to his son, adding that this has nothing to do with his own political future, which includes his nomination as a minister.
