Prof. Bello appointed substantive VC for UNILAG

The acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, which name change to Moshood Abiola University has generated a lot of controversy, Prof. Rahman Ade Bello, has been confirmed as the substantive head of the institution.
Information reaching The Eagle Online has it that Bello emerged after a keenly contested selection process.
Among those he defeated to emerge the substantive VC were UNILAG’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Research), Prof. Babajide Alo; and a former Dean of Student Affairs of the institution, Prof. Dele Olowokudejo.
Sources in the hierarchy of the university told The Eagle Online that the screening of the interested candidates was done on Saturday.
Bello, according to a source in the screening committee, was chosen ahead of other candidates based on his academic qualifications, experience and performance at the interview.
The formal announcement of Bello as the substantive vice chancellor, it was learnt, would be done on Monday.
His appointment is for five years in the first instance.
Bello was appointed in acting capacity in May 2012 following the death of the incumbent then, Prof. Adetokunbo Sofoluwe.
