Hajiya Amina Omoti, the National Amirah (President) of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria, has directed all chapters of the Association nationwide to dedicate from now till March 28 to prayers for peaceful elections.
Omoti stated this in a statement signed by the National Public Relations Officer of the Association, Alhaja Sururah Oyero.
She appealed to all Nigerians to ensure peaceful conduct during and after the elections.
The National Amirah equally appealed to politicians to play according to the rule of the games and ensure a violent-free election in the country.
She implored parents and guardians not to allow their children and other youths to engage in any act of violence capable of disrupting the peaceful atmosphere in the country.
The Islamic leader appealed to Nigerians, especially women, to go all out and collect their Permanent Voter Cards before the deadline and use it to vote for candidate of their choice.
Omoti reminded the Muslim women of Allah’s injunctions on love for one’s country, saying no sacrifice in terms of prayers and fasting as well as going out to vote on election day was too much for one’s country.
In another development, the Muslim Community of Oyo State will on March 7 hold a crucial stakeholders’ meeting at Ibadan.
In a statement issued by the Community Secretary General, Mursiq Siyanbade, said the meeting, slated to hold at Bodija Islamic Centre at 11 am, will equally involve leaders of Muslim organisations in the state.
Siyanbade said the Imams under the leadership of the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Baosari Haruna III, will lead other Imams and Islamic scholars across the 33 local government areas in the state to the meeting.
According to him, the agenda of the meeting includes state of the nation and challenges facing the Muslim Community in the state among others.
Over 200 various Islamic groups and associations registered with the Muslim community in the state are expected at the one-day meeting.
