Armed robbers on Wednesday stormed the Alaba International Branch of Eco Bank, Ojo, Lagos State, killing a mobile policeman on duty and injuring three others.
The robbers also made away with about N24 million belonging to one of the customers during the raid.
The Wednesday operation was the second in a row of such attacks within two months.
The bandits after robbing their victim, allegedly threw some of the money into the air to distract those around the area.
Some sources alleged that some of the money is in foreign currency, while others were naira.
Eye witnesses alleged that about five armed-to-the-teeth gun men arrived the Alaba International branch of Eco Bank around 2.40pm, shooting their way through the security men who were on duty.
They allegedly made a beeline for the parking lot of the bank, where one of the customers was trying to park his car Toyota Camry car.
Another witness said that the robbers ordered the owner to hand over the key of his car, but later changed their minds and blew open the boot of the car.
It was also alleged that one of the mobile policemen who tried to confront the gunmen was shot and he died on the spot.
A source said: “The other policemen on duty took to their heels when they sighted the lifeless body of their colleague.
“They blew open the boot of the car and made away with the money, which was in a Ghana Must Go bag.”
A commercial bus driver, who also claimed to have witnessed the operation, said that the robbers came on foot and went away on foot through one of the market roads leading to Okomaiko area of Ojo.
The driver added that the three injured persons were among those who were running away from the scene and were hit by bullets from the robbers’ guns.
The source said: “Policemen from Ojo only came about 20 minutes after the operation had ended in a Toyota Hilux van.
“They drove round and round in circle for some minutes before they drove away with the three injured persons and the body of their colleague.”
“The way they came, shot and killed the only policeman that was at the gate at the time of their arrival and headed straight to where the victim was trying to park his car, showed that some close persons may have given them details of the victim’s movement.”
