Operatives of Lagos State Police Command have rescued 28 persons chained in a house at Ojodu area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident, said policemen were led to the house following report that a teenager, Toba Adedoyin, was chained by his father.
On getting there, however, more people were discovered chained in the house.
Badmos said all the hostages have been rescued and now in protective custody, while the suspect, Emmanuel Adeyemi, has been arrested.
A statement on the development by Badmos reads: “The command received a report through Area ‘G’ Command H/Qrtrs, Ogba that a child was chained in a house at Oyinbo Unity Estate, Olamidun Close, Yakoyo, Oke-Ira, Ojodu.
“Consequently, a team of policemen was mobilized to the location, where a teenager, named Toba Adedoyin ‘m’ aged 17yrs was found in a room with chain on his legs.
“Victim was allegedly chained by one Emmanuel Adeyemi ‘m’ who claimed to be his father, in order to restrain him from going out. “Further search of the premises led to the discovery of other people chained by the suspect.
“Total number of twenty eight persons, comprising, six adult male, nine adult female, seven female children & six male children were rescued and taken to protective custody.
“Suspect has been arrested and currently undergoing interrogation as the command is working assiduously to get the root of the occurrence.”
