The men of the Bauchi State Police Command on Tuesday killed a suspected armed robber and recovered a stolen vehicle after a shootout with a five-man robbery gang.
The command, in a statement signed by its spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, said it received an intelligence report that the gang had attacked a widow in Jos and made away with her car and other valuables.
The statement by Haruna said: “On receiving the report that the robbers were heading toward Bauchi, the police laid ambush in Zaranda area where they engaged the members in a shootout.
“During the shootout, one of the robbers was killed while others escaped with bullet wounds, abandoning the vehicle, a black Toyota Highlander with registration number Lagos LND 950 BJ, and other exhibits.”
The statement listed other items recovered from the gang to include one AK 47 rifle, one locally made pistol, 55 rounds of 7.62 mm live ammunition, five cartridges and one magazine.
The statement quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Mohammed Ladan, as calling on members of the public to assist the police by watching out for the fleeing armed robbery suspects who might be seeking medical attention in their neighbourhood.
