Operatives of the Department of Criminal Investigation in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State have arrested 25-year-old Familola Ayodeji for allegedly raping an 85-year-old woman.
Ayodeji, of 17, Oke Ido Street, Ido-Ekiti, allegedly raped the old woman on December 25, 2014.
Similarly, the police in Ikole Division, Ikole-Ekiti, have arrested one Pa Olajide Ojo, for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Ojo, 80, of B22, Oke Ode Idogun Street, Ikole-Ekiti, allegedly committed the crime on Christmas eve last year.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Babayemi, Ayodeji allegedly forcefully raped the grandmother while she was asleep.
The suspect was said to have sneaked into her room, bolted the door and forcefully took advantage of the old woman.
Babayemi said the suspect initially went into hiding after the act but was caught in the dragnet spread for him by detectives.
The PPRO said medical report confirmed that the grandma was raped by the suspect.
In the Ikole-Ekiti incident, Ojo was said to have lured the girl into his room under the pretence that he wanted to buy pounded yam from the girl.
The suspect allegedly locked the door as soon as the victim entered and forcefully defiled her.
The police said the cry of the girl attracted neighbours who promptly alerted the police. The PPRO said detectives responded promptly and arrested the suspect after taking the victim to the hospital.
Babayemi said medical report as well as the blood stain exhibits recovered from the scene confirmed that the victim was defiled by the suspect.
The statement said the two suspects will be charged to court as soon as the industrial action embarked upon by judiciary staff is called off.
