A former National Treasurer of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bala Kaoje, has called for total reform of the party to prepare it for the challenges ahead.
Kaoje, also a former Minister of Sports, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday that the PDP must be restructured to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
According to him, the party should be reformed in such a way that it meets the vision of its founding fathers.
He attributed the massive loss by the party in the 2015 general election to bad leadership at the national level and the refusal of the party to change.
He said: “Lack of internal democracy, poor attitude of the members of the National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees resulted in the failure of the party to win more seats and key positions in the elections.”
Kaoje also blamed “internal injustice and squabbles” as some of the problems that caused the party’s loss.
He challenged the All Progressives Congress “to liberate the nation from insecurity, institutional decay and corruption”.
Kaoje advised the Kebbi State Governor-elect, Senator Atiku Bagudu, to improve the health, education and economic sectors of the state.
