The Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Barrister Tanko Beji, has lambasted Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of the state over failure to account for how the N6 billion bailout money released by the Federal Government to the state was spent.
Beji further condemned the consistent foreign trips by the governor, saying it is to the detriment of the state.
This was just as he said no dividend of the trips had been felt, while insisting that something was happening wrongly in the state.
He requested for the expenditure of the seven months statutory allocations to the state.
Beni said: “Let Governor Bello come out to tell us what is going on.
“Let him talk or communicate to the people.
“If he is sick, let him tell us and we will pray for him.”
Beji, who spoke exclusively in an interview in his office in Minna, dwelled on the incompetence on the part of the governor, adding that Bello is not too grounded in the issues concerning the people of Niger State who elected him to govern them.
He said this is tantamount to exhibiting incompetence.
He further urged Governor Bello to offer explanations on the N700 million purportedly reported by some media to cover up alleged funds recovered from some officials of the last administration.
The vice chairman urged the governor to make public from who, when, where and how the money recovered was recovered, adding that it is laughable for him to use the Police instead of the court.
He said: “It was a misplaced priority on the part of the Police.”
Beji added that the state does not need bail out funds because former Governor Muazu Babangida Aliyu did not leave behind salary arrears.
Barrister Beji challenged governor Bello to inform the people of how much accrued to the 25 local government council sin the last seven months.
He said: “The governor should make public what has happened to the seven months allocations to the local government councils in the state, how much has been disbursed and how much left as well what is happening to our funds.”
Accordingly, Beji said the PDP has described the non release of funds to the local government as an aberration, violation of the Nigerian constitution and a contradiction to the administration’s “change mantra” slogan.
On the governor’s admittance that he was not paid to sit down in a place, Beji noted he (governor) was not paid to go to London (Stanford Bridge) to watch matches.
Beji further accused Bello of operating contrary to the budget provision in the state as well as not adhering to constitutional provisions.
He applauded Bello for realising that government is a continues process despite the fact that he lacked ideas or initiative and therefore has no choice than falling back to the ones on ground.
