A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in the just primaries in Plateau State, Eng. Jimmy Cheto, has tasked the Plateau State Governor, Jonah David Jang, to present a level playing field to all aspirants.
Cheto expressed fear that with the way and manner the party is being run in the state, it will likely lose Plateau State if it does not make cogent efforts to rectify the fallout of last month’s primaries in which Senator Gyang Pwajok emerged as the party’s governorship flag bearer.
Cheto made these observations on Tuesday while speaking with journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
He said despite written complains made by the aggrieved aspirants before and after the primaries, the National Working Committee was yet to respond.
He said: “I believe competition is what democracy needs.
“Since the primaries, nobody has come to meet us.
“We are still awaiting the response from the national secretariat.
“If GNS Pwajok is left to run, we cannot guarantee PDP winning the election in Plateau State.
“As an individual, I don’t believe that Plateau citizens are slaves to one tribe.
“I will remain in the PDP but I cannot control how the voters or my supporters will vote.
“Right now as it stands, they are saying they will vote the opposition.
“I don’t know how much I can do about that, but I am not leaving the party.”
Cheto said contrary to insinuations, the party at the state level has not made efforts to reconcile aggrieved party members with the alleged winner but stressed: “GNS did not win the election.
“He is not our candidate but if today PDP recognises that the congresses was not well done and decides to cancel it but also knowing there is no time and decided to go for a consensus candidate from the southern zone, all of us will support him in the interest of peace on the Plateau.
“I will remain in PDP but cannot control my voters if zoning arrangement will not be adhered to strictly in Plateau.”
