Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, on Mondaysaid the institution would continue to strive for excellence until it becomes number one in Africa.
Ambali made the remark in Ilorin while responding to remarks by an accreditation team from the National Universities Commission, led by Prof. Akon Esu.
The team was at the university to assess facilities of the Faculty of Education ahead of the accreditation of some of its courses.
The vice chancellor said that the university welcomes constructive criticisms that would help it to focus on its targets.
He said the recent ranking of the university as the best in Nigeria by 4 International Colleges and Universities, a global universities’ ranking agency, had spurred the management to strive for more excellence.
According to Ambali, UNILORIN is currently ranked the 20th best university in Africa and 1,842 in the world.
Ambali pledged that the institution would continue to produce graduates that would compete favourably with others around the world.
Earlier, the team leader said the visit was to assess teaching and learning facilities and congratulated the university for providing new office complex for the faculty of education.
Esu, who is a lecturer at the University of Calabar, appreciated the efforts of the university in the provision of good road network on campus and issuance of identity cards to students.
She however advised the university authority to improve on the provision of transport services to ease movement of students and staff.
