African Woman Player of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, was on target for Liverpool Ladies in their 2-1 win over Manchester City Ladies in a FA Women Soccer League tie on Sunday.
Oshoala bundled Liverpool in front after just 11 minutes, when young goalkeeper Alex Brooks failed to gather Fara Williams’ corner.
Parris levelled on 54 minutes though, rising above the Liverpool defence to meet Isobel Christiansen’s free-kick and plant a header into the bottom corner.
Within a minute, Krystle Johnston’s cross fell kindly for Christiansen but her powerful shot went just over.
City were only level for four minutes though, before Oshoala’s cross was met by Smorsgard, whose header wrong-footed Brooks to find the back of the net.
Parris sprung the offside trap on 88 minutes but shot into the side-netting as the Reds held on for what Oshoala admitted was an important win.
She said: “It’s a very important win for us. It was a very important game for us after the defeat to Chelsea. We had to put in a lot of effort to get those three points.
“This happens to be our last home game before the mid-season break so it was very important for us to get the win and climb the table again.
“Sometimes when you don’t get the goals in, it can play on your mind and get you down but the goals are coming for me so it’s really helping me to understand my team-mates and the style of play.”
