Osaze Odemwingie looks set to make his Rotherham debut against Ipswich Town on Saturday.
The previously out-of-contract striker joined the Millers on a short-term deal earlier this week, which will see him ply his trade in the Championship until January at the earliest.
New boss, Kenny Jackett, is wasting no time in getting Odemwingie firing for his side, and intends to hand him his debut at Portman Road this weekend.
Jackett said: “He is fit, whichever way we do it, whether he starts and gives us everything he’s got and then perhaps comes off early or if he comes off the bench.
“I do feel he is ready to make a contribution at the weekend.”
The 35-year-old Nigerian joined Stoke City in January 2014 from Cardiff City, and was a part of the squad that finished ninth in the Premier League in three consecutive seasons.
He has also played in two World Cup finals for his country, and became the first Stoke player to score at that level of the international game.
He has 110 goals in 383 career games, and still believes he has a lot to offer.
“I know it’s a difficult situation but I’ve been in these positions before and done quite well and I think they bring out the best in me,” he said to the BBC.
Meanwhile, Jackett has not ruled out bringing another free agent to the New York Stadium.
“We are looking around for others,” he told the Star. “If there is an opportunity for players to come in on trial then we will do it.”
