The executive councils of oil workers’ unions in Nigeria, comprising of NUPENG and PENGASSAN have “suspended” their ongoing strike action.
Consequently, NUPENG members are expected to commence lifting of petroleum products immediately.
According to the union, the suspension was sequel to the
intervention of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke.
Addressing a news conference in Abuja on Friday evening, the Minister had expressed optimism that the strike would be called off to pave way for immediate lifting of fuel.
Alison-Madueke, had earlier in the day engaged the executives of the oil workers’ union in a marathon meeting that lasted for over five hours to resolve issues surrounding pension scheme.
At the end of the meeting, agreement was signed by the representatives of the unions and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Group Managing Director, Dr Joseph Dhawa below.
