The Nigeria Union of Teachers, Ekiti State chapter has appealed to Governor Ayodele Fayose to strive hard and sustain the regular payment of salaries and other benefits to workers.
The union said this became imperative to prevent industrial disharmony in the state.
The teachers added that the only antidote to peaceful and cordial relationship between any government and workers is for such government to place high premium on the welfare of staff.
The teachers urged Fayose to imbibe this philosophy for him to enjoy increased productivity from the state’s employees.
NUT, the umbrella body of teachers, expressed gratitude to the governor for paying their outstanding August salary, with a pledge to continue to support and cooperate with his government to succeed.
In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti and signed by the duo of the state Chairman, Comrade Kayode Akosile, and Secretary, Comrade Gbenga Ajibade, the union said its members had started receiving the alert of payment of the money.
The NUT said it was surprised that Fayose could still consider paying the outstanding salaries at a time like this when the state was battling with lean purse and heavy commitment of his government to welfare of Ekiti State people.
Fayose’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday that the payment marked the beginning of clearance of other unpaid salaries, especially September, 2014 salary and emoluments owed various categories of workers.
Adelusi said the payment was a confirmation that the governor was not only a man of his word but worker-friendly administrator.
He said one of the promises made on the day of Fayose’s swearing-in ceremony was
that he would pay all outstanding salaries owed workers.
He said the governor had always believed that with patience on the part of Ekiti State people, especially workers, all challenges of huge debt and others left behind by the past administration would be surmounted.
