It was a hard fought victory for Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Professional Football League match against Enyimba International at the Akure Township Stadium with striker Okiki Afolabi making the difference in the 84th minute.
The Akure Gunners showed they meant business with an early goal by Isiaka Oladuntoye, but home based Super Eagles star, Chima Akas, cancelled out the goal in the 19th minute.
The Peoples Elephant almost increased the tally in the added time of the first half but Stephen Eze cleared Joseph Osadiaye’s effort off the line.
Before then, Ifeanyi Anaemena had received the marching order when he was booked for a foul on Benjamin Francis.
In the 75th minute, Coach Paul Aigbogun introduced hero of the CAF Champions League victory over Etoile du Sahel, Mfon Udoh, for Osadiaye, but the Sunshine Stars’ defence checkmated all Enyimba’s efforts to increase the tally.
With six minutes to end of proceedings, Seun Olulayo charged on Enyimba defence and his effort was calmly slotted beyond the reach of goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhia for Sunshine Stars second victory of the season.
At the Aper Aku Stadium, former ABS striker, Abdulrahman Bashir, got a brace, while Aminu Kadir scored the third for Nasarawa United to claim the maximum points against Giwa FC.
