The Governing Council of the Nigeria Institute of Journalism on Saturday approved the appointment of Gbemiga Ogunleye as the Provost and Jide Johnson as the Deputy Provost of the institution.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Registrar/Secretary to the Governing Council of the Institution, Dotun Adenijo.
According to Adenijo, the appointment, which takes effect from March 2, 2015, is a demonstration of the Governing Council’s commitment to further repositioning the institution and upholding the spirit of excellence the institution is reputed for in media practice, management and scholarship.
Ogunleye, who succeeds Dr. Elizabeth Ikem, whose tenure expires at the end February 2015, has headed many Editorial and administrative posts.
He has been the Director of News & Current Affairs of Television Continental and its Chief Standards Editor and Associate.
He was once the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Punch newspaper, Editor Daily Times, Features Editor of A.M. News, Acting Features Editor of the The Guardian and the pioneer Head of Corporate Communications of Arik Air.
Currently, Ogunleye is the Deputy Director of News of TVC News International.
With over 32 years experience in media management and legal practice, his proven track records, cognate experiences and excellent leadership qualities, provide a springboard for the next phase in NIJ’s development.
Johnson, now the Deputy Registrar, is a teacher, a coach, an author and instructor in media audience scholarship.
The graduate of the University of Lagos, with Bachelor and Masters Honours’ degree in Mass Communication, is currently the Head of Mass Communication Department of the institution.
He had also served as the Student Affairs Officer of the institution.
He is a member of the Editorial Board of Hallmark newspapers and a regular contributor to national and international discourse on major radio and television stations in Nigeria.
He has published many books as well as several articles in local and international high impact journals.
