Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, the Chief of Army Staff, on Friday said the Nigerian Army had reviewed the training curriculum of the Nigerian Army to effectively tackle insurgency in the North East.
Minimah made this disclosure at the Passing Out Parade of 71 Regular Recruits Intake of the Depot Nigerian Army held in Zaria, Kaduna State.
The COAS said the curriculum was reviewed to properly address the current security challenges in the country.
He said: “Your training curriculum was reviewed taking into cognisance lessons learned in the ongoing operations particularly in the North-Eastern part of our country.
“Apart from improvement in training, we also ensured that you were adequately kitted and provided with necessary logistics before and during your training.
“For these reasons, I expect remarkable improvement in the field than your predecessors in areas such as weapon handling, motivation, battle confidence, field hygiene, first-aid and discipline among others.”
While the Armed Forces continue to confront the security challenges facing the nation, Minimah said the graduating recruits must always remember that their training had placed them at a better pedestal than their adversaries.
He challenged them to ensure that the efforts and resources invested in their training were translated into superior performances in the field.
The COAS urged them to avoid any action that had the propensity to tarnish the image of the Nigerian Army and the nation at large.
Commenting on politics, the Army boss urged them to be vigilant by acquiring knowledge relevant to the military personnel during election.
He said” “As you are all aware, this is an election year, I therefore urge you to read and understand the code of conduct for military personnel during elections.
“You must remain apolitical at all times.
“To achieve this, you are expected to discharge your duties diligently, professionally and patriotically.”
