The Peoples Democratic Party in Niger State has thrown its weight behind all the decisions taken at the National Convention of the party, which took place in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, on Saturday.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Barrister Tanko Beji, also said the PDP in the state “wholeheartedly” supports the composition of the Caretaker Committee headed by the former Kaduna State Governor, Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi.
Beji said in a statement on Tuesday, made available to The Eagle Online: “The Niger State PDP would give the committee our full support and we believe that the Port Harcourt convention was properly constituted and was conducted in line with the Constitution of the Party.
“We are of the firm opinion that the decisions taken at the convention will not only revive our party but reposition it to properly play its role as the main opposition political party in Nigeria and prepare us for the task of wresting power from the misrule of the All Progressive Congress APC in 201.”
Beji therefore charged “all true PDP members from all parts of the country to join Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi and the Caretaker Committee in the task of reconciling and rebuilding the PDP”.
Beji also used the opportunity to challenge the Caretaker Committee to, within the 90 days at its disposal, carry out its mandate to the satisfaction of majority of members by ensuring that all stakeholders are carried along in its decision making process.
The PDP chieftain also appealed to those who were at the Abuja parallel convention to see the latest development as the best opportunity for every hand to be on deck to chart a new but positive and progressive course for the party’s success.
“This is the most appropriate time for all of us to come together as members of the same family to breath new life into our party in the interest of all of us and Nigeria as a nation,” he said.
