The Niger State Government on Thursday inaugurated a 17-man Media and Information Management Committee for effective dissemination of government programmes and activities.
The state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, who is also the Chairman of the committee, announced this in a statement on Thursday in Minna.
According to Vatsa, members of the committee comprise media executives and practitioners in the state, with the mandate to expand the scope of media highlights of government programmes.
Members of the committee include: the Director of Press Affairs; Managing Director, News-line Newspapers; General Manager, Niger Radio.
Others are: Umar Adamu, Jibrin Ndace, Jide Orintunsi, Musa Badeggi, Aliyu Zakka, Umar Mohammed, Andrew Achanya, Mohammed Mohammed, Abu Nmodu, Wole Mosadomi, Yakubu Mustapha, Suad Yakawu and Bologi Ibrahim.
Malam Aminu Garko of the News Agency of Nigeria will serve as secretary of the committee.
The statement said the members were chosen based on their wealth of experience in the media and information management.
The commissioner expressed optimism that the team would lubricate the information management machine of the state.
He said that the people would further be well informed on government activities, which he said was unprecedented.
The statement said: “It is agreed that Mr. Governor is delivering in all his campaign promises; so, the people must be made to know and understand these tangible developments going on for them to key in.
“This committee will re-invigorate the mechanism that will make the people know, understand and key into our government restoration agenda for growth and development.”
The chairman, according to the statement, appealed to the public to shun rumours, adding that it would be counter-productive if people deliberately peddled rumours to cause disaffection and apprehension.
