As part of efforts to tackle fire outbreak across the state, the Niger State Government has expended N590 million on the purchase of 16 fire fighting trucks.
Addressing journalists at a post-State Executive Council meeting briefing at the Government House, Minna, the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ladan, said the Council also approved the recruitment of 150 firefighters who will undergo training at the state-owned institute.
According to Ladan: We were given two weeks ultimatum by Governor Abubakar Sani Bello to ensure the machines are in good working conditions.
“We have swung into action.
“Out of the 16 trucks we bought, the 14 regular cost us N500 million, while the two rapid response fire fighting machines that can pomp between 100 and 200 metres cost the government N90 million.”
Ladan disclosed further that the 150 recruits will be trained in different categories, adding that the Niger State Fire Training Academy, which is accredited by the Federal Government, is fully equipped.
Also, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Barrister Nasara Dan’Mallam, disclosed that the state government has proposed an Erosion/Water Shed Agency, which will be responsible for erosion in the state.
