Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho scored twice as Man City’s EDS recovered to beat the Under-21 Premier League champions, Manchester United, at the CFA.
A storming second half from Manchester City saw them end their season with a 3-1 derby win over Manchester United.
United had beaten City 4-0 a fortnight ago on their way to the title and went ahead at the Academy Stadium.
The Blues welcomed United onto the pitch with a guard of honour to mark United’s success and the time they allowed for the opening goal was gratuitous.
In a first half lacking quality in the final third, Andy Kellett took advantage of a lapse in concentration from the home side just before the break to cross for Ashley Fletcher to slide the ball in.
Having endured the taunts of the City fans behind the goal, the striker enjoyed his riposte.
But a tactical switch at half-time that saw Jose Pozo come off instantly livened City up. Iheanacho levelled the game before the hour mark, beating his man and slotting the ball past Kieran O’Hara for another fine goal.
City continued to press, with Barker now a real handful on his favoured left touchline.
And they were rewarded when Angelino’s effort from a short corner was deflected in.
Callum Gribbin test Angus Gunn’s goal with a long-range effort, but Iheanacho finished off the visitors.
Exchanging passes with Oli Ntcham, he brought the ball down and curled it around o’Hara.
Defeat was harsh on visiting skipper, Tom Thorpe, who was assured throughout, but City deserved the victory for their second half impetus.
Iheanacho is expected to team up with the rest of the Flying Eagles squad in New Zealand for the FIFA U 20 World Cup.
The Nigerian side would open their campaign at the tournament against Brazil in Plymouth on June 2.
