The National Economic Council has endorsed the sale of some national assets in order for the country to recover from its present economic recession.
The NEC made its position known after a meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
Chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the NEC advises the President on economic affairs of the federation and in particular on measures necessary for the coordination of the economic planning in the country.
The NEC is composed of Governors of all 36 states of the federation and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Among other measures recommended by NEC on Thursday for the country to overcome recession are advance payment of licence renewals, infrastructure concessioning and use of recovered funds to reduce funding gaps.
The others include implementation of Fiscal Stimulus/Budget Priorities; fast-tracking of procedures through legislation and the implementation of Strategic Implementation Plan of the budget; and meaningful diversification of the economy and cut down importation.
The issue of sale of national assets to enable the country recover from economic recession was first brought up by the President and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
The President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, also supported the idea in his welcome remarks after the Senate resumed from its eight weeks break.
However, some senators, Representatives, Organised Labour and Civil Society Organisations have kicked against the proposal.
