Federal Government has been urged to include drug free education in the country’s education curriculum to enhance youths’ knowledge about hard drugs and their negative consequences.
Mr Sule Momodu, Commander of the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Anambra, made the call in Awka on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that the country would be better for it, if the youth from early age school with good moral standing understands the consequences of drug consumption.
Momodu said that the stakeholders in the education sector also had major roles to play to reduce the production and use of illicit drug in the society.
He urged parents and government to also formulate programmes that promotes cultural value to eschew ethnicity or religious bigotry which is the panacea to virile nation building.
He said that the country had had it better in the 70s to 80s where values and regard for Nigeria among African nations were respected.
Momodu listed some negative aspects of drugs to include lack of concentration in studies, drop out, criminal tendencies and anti-social behaviour including rape.
He also urged parents to assist government to ensure the eroding value of Nigeria is restored.
The commander said that that institutional transformation that Nigeria needed may not be achieved by just rhetoric statements.
“The willingness to restore values to the front burner would be achieved if leaders also display exemplary leadership quality that would be reciprocated by people.
“The national development and fight against criminal tendencies were both implicit and explicit in the rhetoric andconduct of the national project.
“All and sundry are drivers in this vehicle,’’ Momodu said.
