NAN MD urges journalists to enlighten public on advantages of family planning

Bayo Onanuga, Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria has urged journalists to explore other ways of enlightening Nigerians on the advantages of family planning.
He said this was necessary to address the misconceptions the public had about family planning.
Onanuga gave the advice in Abuja on Thursday when he received members of the Local Organising Committee of the 2016 National Family Planning Conference.
Onanuga said: “We have to find another way of passing information about family planning that will inform the people that family planning is to their advantage.’’
He said that it was cheering for him to be informed that the conference was successful, adding that he attended the programme within the little time at his disposal and learnt a lot.
He said: “When I attended the conference, I met someone talking about some of the misconceptions about family planning.’’
He also pledged that NAN would assist the committee in the area of publicity.
Onanuga urged members of the committee to revive the ‘one family four kid’s campaign’ to increase awareness on the need for family planning and reproductive health services in the country.
Earlier, Dr Ejike Orji, the Chairman, local organising committee, said they visited NAN to appreciate the agency for its support in the just concluded 4th National Family Planning Conference.
Orji said: “The conference started its programme in the Agency and the organisation assisted to publicise the conference.
“We have so far tracked 10 NAN reports from the events which were widely used by other media organisations; we appreciated this great support.’’
He said that 50 International partners and 40 NGOs participated in the conference.
