The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Downstream Petroleum, Senator Jibrin I. Barau, has said the motion he sponsored on the fuel scarcity was beyond subsidy payment or removal.
Barau explained that the motive of the motion was to find a lasting solution to the recurring fuel scarcity in the country.
He said the scarcity of petrol was not in line with the change of the present administration and that the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari is commendable.
He said: “My bill was beyond subsidy payment or removal.
“It seeks to find a lasting solution to the fuel scarcity in the country by making sure that all the impediments to the availability of the product are removed.
“The motion seeks to strengthen the country’s refineries for them to function maximally for the benefit of all because the scarcity is causing untold hardship on the masses.”
According to Barau, with the willingness of President Buhari and the readiness of the National Assembly, the end of fuel scarcity was in sight.
He urged Nigerians to continue to rally round the government, adding: “The country will be better under this administration, hence we must all support it.”
