Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has appealed to leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South West to embrace peace to enable the party move forward.
The governor spoke on Wednesday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, at a meeting of PDP leaders in the South West.
He stressed the need for all party members to come together as one big family.
He said: “Our mission is to get our acts together and recreate the nature of politics in the South West.
“There is no alternative to unity in the South West at this time.
“The time has come not to think of how right you are, but how prepared you are to take on the challenges facing us.”
Mimiko noted that the differences between him and Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, had been put to rest in the interest of the region and the future of the party.
Fayose, who also spoke, said the party needed to forge ahead and be united in order to move forward.
He said he was willing to support any interest that would meet the highest goals of the South West, even if he would be adversely affected.
Fayose said he would continue to speak boldly against injustice, so long as he was speaking the truth.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that PDP chieftains that attended the meeting included Bode George, Ebenezer Babatope, Iyiola Omisore, Doyin Okupe, Jimi Agbaje, Mulikat Adeola-Akande, Jumoke Akinjide and Debo Anisulowo, among others.
