Supplementary election in the 22 units in Ilejemeje state constituency in Ekiti State commenced peacefully under very tight security but low turn out of voters.
On ground to monitor the exercise were fully armed soldiers, policemen and other sister security agencies.
No fewer than two policemen were sighted at each polling booth, soldiers and mobile policemen were also patrolling the area to forestall any outbreak of crisis.
The April 11 state House of Assembly election in the area was cancelled due to the crisis that erupted following alleged snatching of ballot boxes by those suspected to be political thugs in the area.
Voters told our correspondent that election materials and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission arrived at polling booths as early as 7.35am, while accreditation commenced at 8am with the use of card readers.
Corps members deployed for the conduct of the election said the card readers worked well without hitches.
In an interview with a Senator-elect in Ekiti North Senatorial District, Hon. Duro Faseyi, he commended the security arrangement, boasting that the Peoples Democratic Party would win the area.
Faseyi said: “Security arrangement is super compared to what we had last time.
“Nobody is going to try what happened last time.
“Everything is under control.”
He alleged that members of the opposition All Progressives Congress were responsible for the cancellation of the April 11 election in the area.
In the results so far declared by the INEC in the April 11 election, the PDP had already won 25 of the 26 seats in the assembly seat.
Ward 2, Unit 10 Iwaju Ile PDP agent, Adu Comfort, said the exercise was peaceful.
