The Lagos State University on Sunday said issues concerning the non-accreditation of its dentistry programme at the College of Medicine, Ikeja had been resolved by the state government.
Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, confirmed this to newsmen in Lagos.
The Lagos State University Association of Dental Students had on August 30 staged a protest at the Lagos State Government House over the matter.
The students, who demanded to see Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, lamented that they had spent eight years in LASUCOM as against the stipulated six years due to the non-accreditation of Dentistry by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
The students demanded that the government provided the needed fund to put in place facilities for the accreditation of the course.
Fagbohun said Ambode had met with the students and the university management team and all the issues were clarified and resolved toward the completion of the accreditation.
Fagbohun said: “The students had peacefully gone to the Government House to have access to speak with the governor.
“The governor was magnanimous to schedule a meeting with the students where their demand toward the completion of the course was met.”
The vice-chancellor lauded the student for the high sense of maturity displayed during the rally as they came out peacefully without any form of violence or disruption.
Fagbohun said the action of the students was that of a leader and in line with 21st century practice, as dialogue is the key to resolving differences.
