Lagos State Government says it will continue to strive for the attainment of high standards in the education sector as this is the major pillar of national development throughout the world.
Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo who stated this in
Lagos today at the opening ceremony of the 8th edition of the Lagos Book Expo organised by the Lagos State Television stressed that developed nations all over the world paid greater attention to their educational service delivery hence the need for Nigeria to do so as well.
Mrs. Ariyo who was represented by the Ministry’s Director of Administration and Human Resource, Mrs. Omolara Akin-Aderibigbe noted that all the laudable initiatives of the State Government are therefore aimed only at improving the learning outcomes in the education sector but also at building the capacity of staff in order to deliver services to the teeming populace of the State.
She lauded the initiative of the organizers of the Book Expo at reviving the reading culture of students in the state and also for offering opportunity for books to be purchased at discounted rates by Lagosians.
“Let me therefore urge stakeholders to see this 8th edition of the Lagos Book Expo as an opportunity to improve on their reading culture bearing in mind that reading leads to information. I urge you to take advantage of the Expo to inculcate the habit of reading books for your personal development thereby using knowledge garnered for the nation’s advancement in all spheres of human endeavour”, the Permanent Secretary opined.
The theme of the Book Expo is Information: “Tool for Development and Advancement” and serves as a forum for publishers, booksellers, educationists, parents, students and all stakeholders in the education sector to interact.
