People like Kim Davis still remind us where America is coming from, where it is now and where it is expected to be. United States of America was founded on Christian principles. We all know it, unless those of us that have forgotten their elementary history or others who may be pretending to be ignorant so they can continue in their backslidden state. America’s success; greatness, liberty and prosperity did not come by accident. It came from God. It came as a result of the deliberate acknowledgement, love and obedience to the word of God by its founding fathers. It is a product and reward of divine obedience. And to acknowledge this, you see the signature right from the constitution, the currency and the motto; where God is mentioned, then an elected president that must take the oath of office with the Holy Bible. Yes, it is God’s own country!
Now, even if you decide to start from the very beginning, it is a fact that the spiritual emphasis manifested so often by the Americans during the Revolution caused one Crown-appointed British governor to write to Great Britain complaining that: “If you ask an American who is his master, he’ll tell you he has none. And he has no governor but Jesus Christ.” Look at that. Christ was the only governor the Americans recognized during that struggle for freedom. And this was manifested with 16 Congressional proclamations for national days of prayer and fasting throughout the Revolution. Then, move on July 2, 1776, when Congress voted to approve a complete separation from Great Britain. Two days afterwards — July 4th — the early draft of the Declaration of Independence was signed by only two individuals at that time: John Hancock, President of Congress, and Charles Thompson, Secretary of Congress. Four days later, on July 8, members of Congress took that document and read it aloud from the steps of Independence Hall, proclaiming it to the city of Philadelphia, after which the Liberty Bell was rung. Now, instructively, the inscription around the top of that bell was Leviticus 25:10, “…proclaim liberty throughout the land and to all the inhabitants thereof.” Has America forgotten all these so soon? I think so.
Then, check out the convictions of the signatories to that historic declaration of Independence. When Samuel Adams signed the Declaration, he said: “We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in Heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His Kingdom come.”
Wow! But I think John Adams was more elaborate on this. He said that the general principles on which the Fathers of America achieved independence were the general principles of Christianity and that the independence ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. He didn’t stop there. He further posited that Christmas and the Fourth of July were intrinsically connected. He said that on the Fourth of July, the Founders simply took the precepts of Christ, who came into the world through His birth (Christmas) and incorporated those principles into civil government.
This is why this great man, during his presidency, in one of his letters to his wife, Abigail, from the newly-completed “President’s House” (later called the White House), made this profound statement: “May none but honest and wise men rule under this roof.”
But I know he will be turning in his grave in pain to see the total distortion of his dream, that lofty expectation. Adams’ America has been hijacked by not just dishonest and unwise men, but by men who are desecrating every foundation that made America to be great. Today, his America is promoting homosexuality, Satanism, antisemitism, immorality. His America by deliberate policies and actions has continuously exposed her military to dangers and inefficiency. His America has also refused to frontally confront the monsters of extremism, divisive ideologies and glaring threats to the security, peace and prosperity of her citizens, and instead chose to pamper the ‘enemies’. What a lost dream! But we anxiously await more of the ‘Kim Davises’ awake and to stand up for the restoration of the American dream, the dream of the founding fathers who paid direly to free and build this great country. And it must be now! We will continue.
