A Peoples Democratic Party Senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu, is still holed up in his Lagos home.
This was as at 4pm.
Kashamu has refused to open his doors to operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency who had laid siege to his home since very early in the day.
Though some media reports had it that Kashamu had been moved to the Lagos State office of the NDLEA, findings by The Eagle Online revealed that the prominent businessman had not given up on his decision to deny the operatives of the anti-drug agency access into his house.
The spokesman of the NDLEA, Mitchel Ofoyeju, told The Eagle Online that he could not respond accurately to the development as he was still on the way to the office.
For over six hours, it was the same response from Ofoyeju.
However, Kashamu flayed the siege laid to his Lekki, Lagos State home by the NDLEA.
He described it as illegal.
He said in a statement by his media aide, Austin Oniyokor: “This latest onslaught is a confirmation of the alleged plot to illegally abduct him in spite of the pending suit against this illegality.
“As a matter of fact, the court has ordered parties in the matter including the NDLEA to maintain status quo until judgment is delivered on Wednesday 27th May 2015.
“We have confirmed that they do not have a warrant of arrest, just as the office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice has said that it did not give any order to carry out this illegality.
“We have confirmed that this illegality is being designed and executed by Chief Bode George whose wife is the Director General of the NDLEA, all in a bid to score cheap political points.
“We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on NDLEA, Chief George and his wife to toe the path of the rule of law and follow due process.
“Nigeria is not a Banana republic! The United States being the bastion of democracy, the rule of law and due process should not lend itself to this kind of illegality.”
Kashamu was ordered extradited to the United States of America by a Federal High Court to answer to drug charges.
He has however filed an appeal.
The NDLEA, it was learnt, wanted to use the weekend to actualise its aim of getting him to answer to the drug related charges in the US.
