The explosion heard in Jos, Plateau State on Wednesday night and as reported by The Eagle Online has been traced to locally manufactured dynamites used in blasting rocks and stones.
Youths working in Jenata Adamu and Jenta Magoro in Jos North Local Government Area, newsmen were told on Thursday, made used of the dynamites in breaking the stones, which they sell.
The explosions were heard at 8:15pm and 8:30pm on Wednesday.
One of the community leaders of Jenta Magoro, an aged man who simply referred to himself as Baba Peter, confirmed the development.
Baba Peter said the noise heard was unconnected with bombs as the youths only used the improvised device to blast rocks and stones.
The device is popularly known as nokiya in the area.
When asked why such activity is carried out at night, he said: “They (youths) resorted to doing it at night because government has placed high check on these materials due to the security situation in the state.”
He said it has been discovered that the materials used in manufacturing the device are also used for the manufacture of Improvised Explosive Devices.
