Business mogul, Jimoh Ibrahim, on Monday emerged the candidate of a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party for the Ondo State gubernatorial election scheduled for November 26.
Ibrahim, who contested the primaries under the faction led by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as national chairman, was declared winner early on Monday.
Ibrahim polled 502 votes out of the 560 accredited voters to emerge winner in the election held at the Banquet Hall of Premier Hotel, Ibadan, Oyo State.
His only opponent, Olusola Ebiseni, scored a total of 41 votes, while 17 votes were declared invalid.
The Chairman of the electoral committee, Ali Gulak, announced Ibrahim winner and said that the party had displayed that democracy was about the people.
Three of the initial five aspirants had withdrawn from the primaries to throw their weight behind Ibrahim’s candidacy.
In his acceptance speech, the businessman said his aspiration was to rescue the state from bad governance.
Ibrahim said he was interested in revamping the education sector of the state, create jobs and to turn around its economy.
He said he was a man with first-class integrity and an employer of more than 8,000 Nigerians.
He said: “I have managed more than 8,000 workers, 16 companies and have earned two national honours in this course.
“I promise job creation, peace and economic emancipation.”
Ibrahim promised to defend the mandate given to him professionally, politically and economically.
Also speaking, Ebiseni thanked all the delegates for their support, pledging to support Ibrahim to take over the Ondo State governor’s office on November 26.
National officers of the party in attendance included Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, National Vice Chairman; and Otemolu Adepegba, the National Secretary.
