The Publisher of National Mirror and Newswatch Times newspapers, Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim, on Friday “chased out” the six title editors of newspapers from a management meeting he convened to address the challenges facing the organisations.
The affected Editors were Dele Fashomi Newswatch Times Daily), Lanre Oyetade (Newswatch Times on Sunday) and Patrick Asonye (Newswatch Times on Saturday).
Others were Seyi Fasugba (National Mirror Daily), Ayo Olesin (National Mirror on Sunday) and Gbemi Olujobi (National Mirror on Saturday).
Sources told The Eagle Online Ibrahim asked the Editors to leave shortly after entering the venue of the meeting, adding: “I will let you know what I decide on Monday.”
For those who have been following developments in the organisation, there are fears the Editors may be sacked or drastic actions taken against them.
According to one of the staff, it was in the same manner Ibrahim spoke with a former Managing Editor of National Mirror, Kafilat Ogbara, before sacking her.
Friday’s meeting was called to address the issue of resignation of some senior members of staff and the refusal of graphic artists in the Newswatch Times stable to continue working when they are being owed six months salary.
The graphic artists were said to have been sacked en mass after they stopped coming to work.
This led to the instruction that the graphic artists of National Mirror should add the production of Newswatch Times to their schedule, a move that was resisted by most of them.
The issues were yet to be resolved as at press time on Friday.
