The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has called for the repair of the Enugu Petroleum Depot, Emene to reduce the problem of products distribution in the area.
Chief Ikechukwu Nwankwo, the Chairman of Enugu Zone One of IPMAN, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Nwankwo said marketers in the zone have depended on Lagos and Port Harcourt in the last 11 years that the facility became faulty.
According to him, Enugu zone one comprises Anambra, Ebonyi and Enugu States.
He also said the Aba Depot, which was reopened in 2013, had not served maximally, stressing that loading of products had not been regular.
Nwankwo decried the incessant attack on the nation’s pipeline network, which had hampered the effectiveness of petroleum products distribution.
He, however, called for lasting approach to solve the scarcity problem of increasing local refining capacity.
He said: “We marketers are worried about this problem.
“We hope it ends soon.
“For our zone, we want the Federal Government to fix the Enugu depot and make Aba more effective so that we do not have to go far to load products.
“We want more protection for our pipelines so that distribution can be freer and this scarcity addressed.”
