Some residents of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements for the inauguration of Governor Ibrahim Gaidam for a second term in office.
They told the News agency of Nigeria in Damaturu on Friday that the arrangements made it possible for them to conduct their activities without fear.
Malam Musa Galtima, a resident of Damaturu, told NAN: “I went out shopping in the morning.
“Life is normal and everyone is going about his/her business without fear.”
Hajiya Kyelu Muhammadu, another resident, said she was staying home with her family to watch the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari on television.
Muhammadu said: “We are all at home with my children to watch the Abuja inauguration and wish our country peace and prosperity under a new government.”
Security network was tightened in and around Damaturu, the Yobe capital, ahead of the inauguration.
NAN reports that a detachment of security personnel were stationed at strategic locations within the state capital.
Vehicles belonging to security agencies were seen on major roads in the state capital.
Security men conducted stop and search along roads leading to the Damaturu Stadium, venue of the inauguration of the state governor.
Movements into the stadium were restricted while detachments of heavy security men were deployed at the gate searching and scrutinizing everyone getting into the stadium while vehicles were parked outside.
NAN reports that dignitaries from Niger Republic were also in Damaturu to grace the inauguration of Gaidam for a second term of office.
