Manchester City starlet, Kelechi Iheanacho, has revealed he nearly turned down a move to the club because he wanted to join Portuguese side, Porto.
The Nigerian teenager joined City two years ago, but he has revealed that he had to be talked into the transfer by dad, James, and his agent.
Iheanacho had initially set his heart on joining Porto, but was talked into moving to the Etihad instead on the basis that it offered better opportunities.
According to him: “My agent said City was a better prospect and my father told me I should join — so I did.”
The 19-year-old was convinced as City struck a £350,000 deal with Taye Academy, in the Nigerian city of Owerri, and snapped up the young forward.
He put in a man-of-the-match performance in his first start for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in the midweek Capital One Cup win over Crystal Palace.
Iheanacho got himself on the scoresheet, having already scored against the same opposition when he came off the bench to net the winner in the Premier League fixture.
