Manchester City whiz kid, Kelechi Iheanacho, has launched a serious challenge for the Citizens striking role, by keeping pressure on Wilfried Bony.
The Ivorian didn’t enjoy a great derby, with youngster waiting in the wings.
The City striker looked decent in the opening period, linking up play with a combination of strength and some neat touches, but he faded badly in the second half and the doubts over his ability to play for a side chasing silverware remain.
It’s not been an easy first 10 months at the club for the Ivorian.
Immediately after his £25 million January move from Swansea, he left to play at the Africa Cup of Nations, delaying his introduction to the side by more than five weeks.
He’s played just 861 minutes since his move in January – less than 10 games in total.
It would be unfair to write him off completely after such a stop-start beginning to his time at the Etihad.
Aguero’s hamstring injury picked up on international duty is set to keep him out for a month and this was seen as Bony’s chance to shine.
So far, though, he’s failed to convince.
With Iheanacho, City’s 18-year-old Nigerian, waiting in the wings, Bony now has a fight on his hands keeping his place in the side, even in the absence of Aguero.
